You leave Burgos through El Parral park and the Hospital del Rey, and after Tardajos and Rabé de las Calzadas you climb onto the meseta: a landscape of endless horizon, wheat fields and sky that will fill the next few days.

Almost all flat as far as Rabé. Then you climb onto the high plain and descend the steep Cuesta de Matamulos to Hornillos.

The route
A quiet way out through parks and the Hospital del Rey, then tracks between fields to Tardajos.
You cross the river Urbel and reach Rabé, with its hermitage on the way out where a nun stamps credentials.
You climb onto the high plain and the landscape opens up completely. At the end, the Cuesta de Matamulos drops down to Hornillos.
Tips
There are no trees on the meseta. Hat, sunscreen and sunglasses from today.
Between Rabé and Hornillos there are no services and the plain is very exposed.
It has few beds. If it is full, there is an isolated albergue at Arroyo San Bol, 5.6 km on.
