You leave Portomarín crossing the Miño and climb for almost 13 km to the Sierra Ligonde, beside the road and through pine woods. Castromaior has a Celtic hillfort, and the end descends gently through hamlets to Palas de Rei.

About 350 m of ascent to Ventas de Narón, spread over many kilometres. The second half loses height little by little.

The route
You cross the reservoir on a footbridge and climb through woodland and then beside the road to Gonzar.
Castromaior and its hillfort, Hospital da Cruz and the top of the climb at the Sierra Ligonde.
A gentle descent through hamlets: Ligonde and its wayside cross, Eirexe, Portos and the turn-off to the church of Vilar de Donas, of the Knights of Santiago.
Tips
The Belesar reservoir produces thick morning fog. Wear reflective clothing if you walk beside the road.
A pre-Roman settlement on a hilltop, a few minutes from the path. It is usually almost empty.
If Palas is full, Ligonde, Eirexe and Lestedo have quieter albergues.
