Just outside Estella is the fountain of the monastery of Irache, which pours wine for pilgrims. Then Villamayor de Monjardín below its castle and a long, lonely stretch through cereal fields to Los Arcos.

Most of the climbing comes at the start, up to Villamayor de Monjardín. The last 12 km are almost flat, but with no shade or services.

A climb among holm oaks and vines to the village, overlooked by the castle of San Esteban de Deyo.
Twelve kilometres of track between fields, with no villages or fountains. In season there is usually a drinks stall halfway.
Tips
There is not a single village or reliable fountain until Los Arcos: 12 km in the sun.
It opens in the morning and the day’s wine sometimes runs out. Get there early if you want to try it.
The second half has no shade. In summer, aim to be in Los Arcos before midday.
