You leave Pamplona past the Citadel and the university, climb among cereal fields and wind turbines to the Alto del Perdón, with its famous pilgrim silhouettes, and descend to Puente la Reina, where the Camino Aragonés joins.
Profile
Ten kilometres climbing gradually to the 780 m of the Perdón. The descent is short but on loose stone; after that, flat to Puente la Reina.

The route
You leave the city past the Citadel and the campus, and after Cizur Menor the path climbs gently through wheat fields, with the Perdón wind turbines ahead.
The final push, short and steep. At the top, the iron monument and the best views of the stage, back to Pamplona and ahead to the Valdizarbe valley.
A loose-stone descent to Uterga, then flat through Muruzábal and Obanos. The detour to the octagonal church of Eunate is worth it.
Tips
It is short but covered in round stones. Watch your step and use poles if you have them.
From Muruzábal it is about 2.5 km extra to Santa María de Eunate, an octagonal Romanesque church in the middle of the fields. You rejoin the Camino in Obanos.
The whole stage runs through open fields. In summer, set off early and wear a hat.
